Cycnoches chlorochilon
Species - Panama, Colombia, Venezuela
This is the ever-popular "Swan Neck Orchid". Cycnoches chlorochilon is a warm grower doing best with night of 65 degrees or more and days in the mid 80's and up. They like bright indirect or diffused light and plenty of water and fertilizer during the growing season that lasts basically from the time new growth begins until all or most of the leaves fall. After that water should be reduced to just enough to keep the pseudobulb from shriveling. Some people even remove them from the pot and medium and "store" them until new growth begins. It is best to re-plant them while new roots are just beginning to avoid breaking new root tips.
Flowering season is generally late Summer to Fall and the wonderfully fragrant flowers may reach 5-6" occurring on a short somewhat pendant stem, 2-5 in number.
