Brookside Orchids began boarding orchid collections about 20 years ago. Currently, we are home to the orchid collections of over 400 clients, from Marin to San Jose.
Orchid boarding is year-round care for your orchid collection, except for the time when the plants are in bloom and are in your home or office.
We provide complete care that includes: watering, fertilizing, repotting, dividing as necessary, and pest control.
Orchid boarding is year-round care for your orchid collection, except for the time when the plants are in bloom and are in your home or office.
We provide complete care that includes: watering, fertilizing, repotting, dividing as necessary, and pest control.
- We accept only healthy, pest-free orchids and companion plants (e.g. Bromeliads, Tillandsia, etc.) We do not accept seedlings or flasks. We cannot guarantee the survival of plants that arrive in a seriously weakened condition.
- Our minimum space is 10 square feet, about the size of a standard card table. The fee for the minimum space is $55.00 a month, or $5.50 per square foot. Boarding is billed quarterly. The number of plants that can be accommodated in a minimum area depends on the size of the plants. Your boarding area is determined by the space required for optimal plant health.
- Additional space is rented at the rate of $5.50 /sq. ft. per month.
- When a plant comes into bud or bloom, the owner is notified once by email (preferred) or phone. Clients who live nearby can pick up and drop-off directly at the nursery.
- We DO NOT guarantee that you will have a constant supply of blooming plants being delivered year round. The amount of blooming plants you will receive depends on: 1) The size of the collection, 2) The variety of orchids in the collection, 3) The health of the plants when they come back to the nursery. Customers with minimum collections should expect to go months without receiving plants; this is normal.
- Plants returned in damaged or dying condition will be looked after to the best of our abilities. However, if the damage is too severe, the plant will be removed from the collection. Orchids are slow to recover and excessive damage may result in the plant not blooming again for years.
- Damage to plant leaves, stems, buds, flowers, or roots is permanent. Keeping your plant in our greenhouse will not "heal" pre-existing marks, scars, burns, pitting, wrinkling, rips, or breaks.
- We DO NOT guarantee your plant will bloom at the same time every year.
- We are happy to work with you in terms of repotting and maintaining the collection size. However, we will advise against potting choices that are detrimental to the health of the plants.
