Acacallis cyanea
species - Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil
This lovely species, now being used so much in Zygopetalum breeding was once known as Aganisia cyanea. It has had a reputation of being difficult to grow, so much so that we used to refer to it as "Agonizing sayonara". However, recent seed grown populations seem to be a bit easier to grow.
The plants like shade, temperatures between about 65 at night to 85 or so during the day with moist roots. It has been reported that in the areas where they grow, flood waters can submerge the plants for a time with no ill effect. Good humidity also helps.
Our plants are grown in NZ sphagnum moss and are flowering size. Flowering season seems to be variable and they can put up more than 1 stem from a single growth.
LIMITED!! FLOWERING SIZE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN SPIKE WHEN SHIPPED!!!
