Maxillaria scalariformis, so named for its ladder-like leaf arrangement, is a cool growing, eventually large size orchid that likes semi-shady or dappled light conditions. We're growing it with night temperatures of ~55 degrees. Water and feed regularly year-round using a liquid or water soluble fertilizer once a month. Flowers appear in late Spring and are up to 2" in size. Our plants are 16-18" tall, and will start to bloom long before they achieve full size. Where weather is temperate, Max. scalariformis would do well in a lathhouse environment.
