Aeranthes Green Dragon
(Jean Bosser X Grandiose)
A newly registered Brookside creation! Aeranthes are related to Angraecums with which they have been sometimes hybridized. Most of the species are native to Madagascar and are very striking with translucent flowers on wiry, pendant stem, some as long as 48", the flowers appearing to hang in mid-air.
Green Dragon seems to be able to bloom on relatively small plants; the flower pictured to the right bloomed on an 8.5" seedling just one year out of flask! The plants prefer shady, warm conditions (65-85 degrees night to day) with good humidity. They should be watered evenly year-round adding a liquid or water soluble fertilizer once a month (see our offerings in the "Supplies" section of the website). Flowering season is mostly Summer; the 2.5" flowers hanging downward on short (to ~6") stems currently. The stems should be considerably longer as the plants mature at which time they may produce more than one that may also branch. Stems should not be cut until they have become brown.
FLOWERING SIZE, BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN SPIKE NOW!!
