Bulbophyllum thiurum 3'' FS
species - Peninsular Malaysia
This is one of those "fantastic flowers"! Held aloft or semi-pendent on a short wiry stem, are 3-4 flowers with 4-5" petals. In the right light the flowers look like something out of the movie Avatar. Flowers can appear at almost any time.
Some believe Bulb. thiurum to be extinct in the wild, but these are grown from seed and, thought compact, are blooming size. They prefer semi-shady conditions with good humidity and temperatures between about 65 and 85 night to day. As is the case with many Bulbophyllums, this one would prefer to be moist at the roots (no constantly soggy) and they are planted in NZ sphagnum moss to help achieve that end. Water regularly year-round adding a liquid or water soluble fertilizer twice a month.
LIMITED!! FLOWERING SIZE, BUT NOT CURRENTLY IN BUD OR FLOWER!!!
