Previously, this was Potinara Village Chief Wine, the man-made genus comprised of 4 genera (Cattleya, Laelia, Sophronitis and Brassavola), but Brassavola was re-classified as Rhyncholaelia. Later Sophronitis and Laelia were subsumed under Cattleya and a new man-made genus was born: Ruthara (Rth.). Rth. Village Chief Wine produces round red 5+ inch flowers that open in Winter.
Like most Cattleyas, Chief Wine would like temperatures of 65-85 degrees night to day, bright indirect light and regular watering with fertilizer as liquid or water soluble powder added twice a month. Allow the plant to dry some what between watering; roots don't want to be soggy.
