Rodrumnia Doll Face 2" FS
Rodrumnia Doll Face
(Rdm. Helmut Rohrl X Tolu. Jiaho Rainbow)
These orchids were once simply known as "Equitant Oncidiums" because of their fan shaped growths. Then taxonomists separated them into a new genus: Tolumnia. They also re-classified other Oncidiums as Rodriguezias and that made the hybrids resulting from the two former Oncidiums, Rodrumnias! Are you confused yet?
Whatever you call them, their culture preferences are the same, i.e. bright indirect light and intermediate temperatures (60-85 degrees night to day). Very important is watering. Our plants are planted in 2" plastic pots with coarse pine bark that has not been tamped down. This is because, in nature, the parent plants often grow in humid areas with their roots totally exposed as twig epiphytes. It is best to allow them to dry between waterings (this may only take 2-3 days). The plants do not grow well or for long with constantly wet roots; this is why they are often sold mounted on small pieces of cork bark.
This is a seedling cross and the colors will vary greatly as shown in the pictures to the right- we cannot begin to tell what you might get. So far they have been late Winter-Spring bloomers with flowers around an inch in size with 6 or more on an 8" stem. When mature, the plants can produce branched stems in excess of 12" with many more flowers.
