Are you ready for the bizarre? Here it is! This strange plant is actually a epiphyte that grow on trees with spongy bark. They are endemic to northwestern Australia and aren't parasitic but rather apparently have a somewhat symbiotic relationship with a specific kind of ant (in nature).
Ours are planted in New Zealand sphagnum moss. The Ant Plant prefers to be dry-moist (water every 2 weeks or so) and warm (60-ish at night) and would rather have dappled or indirect light.
Don't be concerned with the spiny look, the spine-like growths are actually rather soft.
