Know for their fragrance, Zygopetalums also provide fanciers with a different combination of colors - chocolate browns, greens and blue-purple. Zygos are mostly Cool to Intermediate growers, that is they like temperatures in the 55-80 degree range night to day. They also like dappled light and moist roots. Because they are grown in sphagnum moss, the moist roots are easier to maintain, but, once again, don't overdo - the aim is moist, not soggy. In more temperate areas, some grow their Zygopetalums with their Cymbidiums.
These are compact plants with flower buds mostly clearing the leaves. Flowers are about 2.5" across and 4-6 per stem. Zygos bloom from the developing new growth and the flowering season may vary.
