Laelia purpurata 'Delicate' X sib 2"
Laelia purpurata 'Delicate'
species - Brazil
Laelia purpurata is perhaps one of the most variable species there is in terms of color, from pure white and shades of pink, with a number of lip colors including pink, red-purple, amethyst and grey blue. It is also one of the easiest Cattleya family orchids to grow. Here, it tolerates night temperatures into the 40 degree range and also well into the 90's during Summer days. Bright indirect light with regular applications of water and fertilizer (see ours in the "Supplies" section) are the ticket, especially during late Spring, Summer and early Fall. A lessening of both water and fertilizer through the shorter colder months is a good idea.
Flowers, scented with anise, appear in late Spring - Fall and can be as much as 7-8" across, 3-7 on a stem.
