Dendrobium sanderae var. major 4" NFS
Dendrobium sanderae var. major
species - Luzon, Philippines
Here's a cool grower from the mountains of Luzon, the Philippines. Flowers are large for the genus (to 4") and are very long lasting. Den. sanderae can bloom from late Winter to Fall on very short 2-4 flowered stems that arise from the upper part of the cane. Mature plants can attain to 3' canes and make a stunning display. The varietal name, "major", suggests that there is also a smaller variety and indeed there is both in plant and flower size.
Though listed as a cool grower, we have grown Den. sanderae at intermediate night temperature (60-65 degrees) in bright though diffused light. Water and feed regularly until November and then reduce the water and fertilizer until Winter's end.
