Dendrobium speciosum 2" pot
Dendrobium speciosum (sibling cross)
species - Australia (New South Wales and Victoria)
Absolutely fabulous when a specimen size plant is in flower, yet a pretty rugged plant is this Aussie native. The plants offered are quite a way from bloom, but worth the wait. The ~2" spidery flowers are hyacinth scented, up 100 on a mature stem and tend to close as the cool of night sets in. Flowers are born in Spring. Younger plants will grow faster if grown warm, but we've grown and bloomed mature plants in a greenhouse that occasionally drops to 40 degrees at night in Winter. The plants like bright light while more mature ones can take full sun (short of burning the leaves). Give the plants plenty of water and fertilizer during the growing season (while new growths are maturing), but let them dry a bit between waterings. A drier Winter rest with little or no fertilizer is also recommended. Protected from frost and hot, direct sun all day, Dendrobium speciosum can be grown outdoors where weather is not severe. Take care with small plants!
SEEDLINGS!! NOT NEAR BLOOMING SIZE!!
