Maxillaria tenuifolia flowering size, 6" basket
Maxillaria tenuifolia "the Coconut Pie" Orchid
species - Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica
This is certainly one of our most popular orchids! Given a little overhead protection, it is tolerant of temperatures in the mid 40's and kept moist, to the mid 90's. For us, it usually blooms in Summer, but it can bloom at other times as well. Flowers are long lasting, around 1.5" across and, on a warm day smell enticingly like coconut. Grow this one in dappled light and give it regular water and food, especially during the Summer months (See our fertilizers in the "Supplies" section). Some recommend a slightly drier Winter - wet and very cold should be avoided.
We've planted these in 6" mesh baskets in which, in a reasonably short time, they will overflow nicely.
LIMITED!! FLOWERING SIZE, BUT NOT CURRENTLY IN BUD OR FLOWER!!!
