Epidendrum centropetalum 3" FS
species - Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua
A pretty, petite, cool grower (to 40-50 degrees) is Epidendrum centropetalum. It also likes filtered to bright light. Mature plants make keikis* readily but dislike soggy or old potting media. Flowers are about 1.5" tall and are borne in terminal clusters Winter-early Summer.
This plant was fairly recently incorrectly known as Oerstedella centropetala or centadenia.
These plants are flowering size, but not currently in flower-they stand about 12" tall (not counting the pot).
*keikis (Hawaiian = babies, are vegetative growths that many orchids pants can produce, usually somewhere along the flower stem or at nodes along the main stem. When the keikis have produced 2-3 roots of their own, they can be removed and planted on their own.
