Grown from captive seed.
Epidendrum melanoporphyreum is distinctive for it purplish foliage and dark inky flowers. It is listed as a cool grower, but seems to do well with night temperatures of 60-65 as well. ,In nature it blooms in Winter-Spring, but here, it may bloom at almost any time.
The plants prefer filtered light, regular watering and fertilizing and tend to burn leaf tips if allowed to become too dry, especially when it is warm.
The plants in this offering are 8-10" tall and are planted in 2" pots with NZ sphagnum moss as a substrate.
