Bulbophyllum falcatum 'Standing Tall' AM/AOS FS 3"
Bulbophyllum falcatum 'Standing Tall' AM/AOS
species - Central-West Africa
In a family replete with oddities, Bulbophyllum falcatum stands out as one of the most unique. It's flower stem looks like a feather, or a bean of some kind? More like an Acacia seedpod is the flower stem of this plant. It has been reclassified multiple times since it first described in 1891 as Phyllorchis. Most recently it was in a rather small group of 19 species called Megaclinium, now considered a Section of the genus Bulbophyllum.
It is said to be a hot grower, but it does just fine under intermediate conditions (60-65 degree night). The flattened, feather-like stem produces small (to 1/2") flowers on both sides that open sequentially and are relatively long-lasting. The flowers are non-fragrant and bloom Winter-Spring. The plant appreciates shady conditions and regular watering and fertilizing. The aim is to provide moist/humid conditions
