Bulbophyllum eberhardtii FS 10" basket
species - Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, S. China
Rather spectacular when it blooms, this Bulbophyllum puts ap a 4" head of flowers (it's called an 'umbel') on a 12" stem. It's a big plant, hence the 10" basket that features large, single-leafed pseudobulbs separated by tough 4-5" rhizomes.
The plants are potted in New Zealand sphagnum moss with an upturned 6" bulb pan at the bottom to prevent the basket from holding too much moisture. Still, the plants like to be moist and somewhat shady. We are growing it with a 65 degree night, but it's said to grow cooler. A vigorous grower, Bulbophyllum eberhardtii should be fertilized regularly,- it has no rest period.
The plants may bloom at any time, but most often here from late Spring-early Summer.
