Bulbophyllum rothschildianum 'Red Chimney' FCC/AOS 6" basket
Species - S. China, India, Assam, Myanmar
This plant is a real conversation piece when in flower. It is reported to have a "peachy, fruity" fragrance, a definite improvement over many of the genus! The hanging basket not only accommodates the somewhat rangy growth habit, but also makes for a stunning display when it's in flower.
Bulbophyllum rothschildianum does best as a warm grower (65-85 degrees night-day), in dappled light. Good humidity is helpful and regular watering and fertilizing twice a month with a liquid or water soluble fertilizer is necessary. The aim is a medium that stays just moist. The plant can be successfully grown in bark or other mixed media, but ours are planted in New Zealand sphagnum moss.
Flowering season is usually Spring and Fall
